Investigating the Relationship between Defense Mechanisms and Coronavirus Anxiety

The prevalence of Covid- 19 has had various economic, social, and psychological consequences. The aim of this Research was to study the relationship between Corona Disease Anxiety and Defense Mechanisms in the southern region of the country. For this purpose, a sample including adult male and female evaluated online by Corona Disease Anxiety Scale (Alipour, 1398) and the ِdefense mechanisms (Andrew, Singh and Band,1993) through social media. Pearson correlation coefficient and Multiple regression methods have been used to analyze the data. The findings showed that the higher the level of Coronavirus anxiety (physically and mentally) had meaningful statistical correlation with neurotic and immature defense mechanisms. defense mechanisms also predicted of 58% of corona anxiety. Also, Coronavirus anxiety could be predicted positively by immature (β =29) and neurotic defense mechanisms (β =10) and negatively by mature defense mechanism (β =-27). These results show that in dealing with any crisis, apart from health measures, paying attention to intrapersonal variables, especially in the field of defense and coping styles, can help to develop more complete and local treatment protocols.
